July 29 is celebrated as International Tiger Day globally to reminisce conservatory awareness regarding the majestic endangered species on the planet. During the event of the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit that was organized in Russia, the idea of International Tiger Day, which is also referred to as Global Tiger Day was proposed on 29th July 2010. India, China, Russia, and several other countries pledged to join the agreement for the sake of safeguarding the tiger population. Thirteen tiger range nations stepped forward to collaborate in the mission of T x 2, which is, doubling the tiger population by 2022, which coincides with the Chinese year for tigers.
Over the time, the tiger population has faced grave issues such as hunting, poaching, habitat loss, lack of protection infrastructure, climate change, etc. In the past centuries, 97% of the entire tiger population was found to have vanished and in 2010, only 3000 tigers were alive on Earth. Considering the urgency of the conservation of the tiger population, International Tiger Day was proposed.
