Gorumara National Park, tucked away in the beautiful Dooars region of North Bengal, is a perfect blend of lush forests, open grasslands, and winding rivers like Murti and Jaldhaka. It’s best known for the one-horned rhinoceros, but you’ll also spot elephants, bison, peacocks, and colorful hornbills here. Whether it’s the thrill of a safari or just soaking in the peaceful vibes of nature, Gorumara has something for everyone. The sunrise and sunset views are absolutely breathtaking, and the observation towers give you a bird’s-eye view of the wild beauty around. It’s the kind of place that feels like a refreshing getaway from the everyday hustle.
Gorumara National Park has gained the spotlight as a pleasant tourist attraction. Not only the safari activities but the verdant nature of the destination draws a large number of tourists especially for weekend trips. Walking through the nearby lush green tea estates exudes a different level of satisfaction. Usually considered as an offbeat destination, Gorumara National Park has got another hidden gem near it, named as Chhaoaphali, which translates to ‘Shadow Falling’ in English. Recently, it has emerged as a new safari zone near the national park. This not-so-popular yet iconic location is nestled on the banks of the Neora River.
This is an exciting spot to explore, a beautiful area where elephants often gather to drink from the Neora River. You can also spot vibrant birdlife here, including majestic peacocks. Visitors will soon enjoy a package that includes watching elephants bathe in the Murti River and even joining an evening tribal dance.
For those looking for more adventure, the Forest Department is also adding Chhaoaphali as a new safari destination. Nestled between the Gorumara forest and scenic tea gardens, with the Neora River flowing alongside, it promises breathtaking views. This spot, located near Neora Jungle Camp, is being developed to boost tourism and offer something fresh to visitors. Whether its safaris, selfies with elephants, or soaking in the beauty of the forest, Gorumara is about to become even more exciting!
The Forest Department is gearing up to introduce a cool selfie zone at Gorumara National Park, where visitors can snap pictures with elephants - without disturbing or touching them. This unique experience will launch soon at Dhupjhora, giving wildlife lovers a chance to capture some amazing moments in a safe, controlled setting.
